Welcome to Danny Kinahan.com

Welcome to the  Web site of Danny Kinahan, MLA for South Antrim in the Northern Ireland Assembly. Danny.Kinahan@NIassembly.gov.uk

I am an extremely committed member of the Ulster Unionist Party and will show you all that I have been involved with in Council and am currently involved in within the Party, the Assembly and everyday life here in this site. You will see what I stand for and I am here to help if any of you would like to contact me.

My Beliefs

I believe firmly in the Union of Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England as that is where our history and past have been forged.I firmly believe that our alliance with the Conservative Party is the natural way to strengthen the Union and to ensure that we have influence with their decision makers on all decisions that they take affecting Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom, its culture, its values and its economic position in the world, hold so much to be proud of. I am very much a British subject and a Celt/Anglo Saxon and feel that this is the strength we should all build from. (I do not think we should ignore our Irish roots either and would prefer to see Ireland back in the Commonwealth too)

We share little with many of the countries in Europe and I feel we should pull back a bit from the EU and especially so from the gravy train and the lack of accountability of the appointed Commissioners. I believe in the widening of the original Common Market but not at the loss of soveregnty that we have allowed to occur in the last few years. Trade ’Yes’ Government ’No’. While the EU exists and we are tied by the previous treaties we must play our part.Lets ensure we achieve the best from the EU whilst not compromising our sovereignty.

I firmly believe that we the Ulster Unionist Party have turned the corner. The Dromore bye-election was a start and the Fermanagh bye-election showed that we still have an extremely good core vote.I want to see us build on these results and prepare ourselves for government in the future. Now that we are allied to th Conservative Party we can expand to widening this core vote to all those who feel disenfranchised by the sectarian voting structures of the past.(see press releases)

We have seen that the DUP cannot be trusted and that they certainly have not achieved a better deal. We have also seen that they really are in government for themselves and themselves only and for their Ulster Nation rather than for the Union that we stand for. I believe we know how to govern and how to listen and produce constructive government rather than the politics of opposition and destruction that is the present DUP.(See press releases)

It is the Unionist Electorate that we should be listening to and we need to be out on the ground listening to everyone and learning and taking Northern Ireland forwards towards a better Union.I am here to listen but do encourage others to talk to listen and to exchange views and especially encourage everyone to vote.To get there we need all of you helping each other and us to improve everything we are involved in. Every quarter i arrange a dinner for Unionists to meet and discuss issues and welcome new Ulster Unionists to these dinners)

I am very proud to be part of the UUP party review team and now to be one of the party officers (Membership) and want to see more of you joining us helping us and taking this party and Northern Ireland  forwards. There is nothing to be ashamed of in talking and discussing politics and especially so in supporting and helping the Ulster Unionist Party so do persuade others to become more political and come and join us.
